Litter overview

Knowwaste conduct Local Litter Checks to assist councils, community groups and state governments.
We have assessed the factors effecting littering in urban and rural public places across NSW using the Local Litter Check and are trained to find the best way to change local littering behaviour. We tailor litter prevention programs to meet your local needs.
Litter in NSW
The former Premier’s Priority target to reduce litter volume by 40% by 2020 was achieved with a 43% reduction from the baseline year 2013–14.
With volume now substantially reduced, the NSW Government has set item‑based targets to ensure a renewed focus on small, problematic litter items that are more likely to leak into the environment and waterways.
Two new ambitious litter reduction targets have been set in the new NSW Waste and Sustainable Materials Strategy 2041. These targets are:

-
reduce all litter items by 60% by 2030
-
reduce plastics litter items by 30% by 2025.
